The 2005 Readiness Fair
The 2005 Readiness Fair had quite an impact:
- More than 1,500 people attended.
- School supplies were provided to 1,133 youth participants.
- Seventy-five percent of those in attendance were youth of school age or younger.
- Of those, 71% attend a North Portland school.
- These numbers represent an 18% increase in attendance from 2004.
The cultural diversity that is part of what makes North Portland such a wonderfully rich place to live was also well represented at the Readiness Fair. Of the youth who attended, the question asking race and ethnicity of participants was answered as follows:
- 22% African American
- 3% Asian
- 22% Caucasian
- 39% Hispanic/ Latino(a)
- 3% Native American/Alaskan Native
- 1% Pacific Islander/Hawaiian Native
- 5% Multiple Racial/Ethnic Origins
- 5% Chose not to answer
